History

Oscar Road

The site is located within the city of Aberdeen in the heart of Torry, one of Aberdeen's many residential suburban areas. Torry lies to the south of Aberdeen City Centre on the banks of the River Dee. Torry was once a royal burgh and was incorporated into Aberdeen in 1891 after the construction of the Victoria Bridge.

This contemporary and inclusive affordable housing development aims to cater for a wide variety of residents from young family to fully wheelchair accessible homes. The ‘Housing for Varying Needs’ guidance was used throughout the design process of the house types to make a wide variety of houses for all kinds of needs.  With this proposal we have aimed to design it with climate change in mind, to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions, with large amenity and garden spaces. Making the development a pleasurable place to live in.  Bike stores throughout the site encourage sustainable methods of transport however, there has been communal parking incorporated into the site for those who are unable to cycle.  External private stores provides a local space, away from home to pursue hobbies and outdoor activities. These stores also help to encourage residents to make best use of the external amenity spaces within the site, encouraging a community to form.
